Overview

The Afya na Haki (Ahaki) Institute is seeking a Doctoral/Post-Doctoral Fellow to join its Ubingwa Think Tank for Global Health (UTT). The Fellow will support research, evidence generation, knowledge development, and policy engagement on issues related to health, human rights, and global health.

The fellowship provides an opportunity for an emerging researcher to contribute to African perspectives and leadership in global health policy and practice. Areas of work may include Reproductive Justice, Health Technologies and Digital Justice, Global Health Justice, Maternal Health Policy, Access to Medicines, Digital Health, Climate Justice, and Governance of Complex Health Emergencies.

The successful candidate will conduct and contribute to research, analyse evidence, develop research and policy publications, and help translate complex information into accessible material for policymakers, researchers, practitioners, and other audiences. The Fellow will also participate in policy dialogues, conferences, partnerships, and other activities that promote African knowledge and leadership in global health.

The position is a one-year, full-time engagement commencing in October 2026.

QUALIFICATIONS

Applicants should:

Hold a PhD awarded within the last two years, or be at the research/dissertation stage of a doctoral degree.
Have a doctoral qualification or doctoral research in Law, Public Health, Social Sciences, Gender Studies, Human Rights, Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights, Development Studies, Political Science, International Relations, Economics, or another relevant discipline.
Demonstrate academic or professional experience in health, human rights, global health, social justice, or related fields.

TERMS OF ENGAGEMENT

The fellowship will run for one year, beginning in October 2026, and will be a full-time engagement. The position will be competitively remunerated in accordance with Ahaki’s applicable terms and conditions.
The Fellow will report to the Head of the Ubingwa Think Tank for Global Health.
