OVERVIEW
The AIMS Research and Innovation Centre is inviting outstanding recent PhD graduates from across Africa to join its Mathematical Epidemiology Programme as Tutorial Fellows through an innovative Early Career Academic Fellowship.
This is more than a fellowship. It is an opportunity to build your academic career while contributing to one of Africa’s leading programmes in mathematical epidemiology. Working alongside internationally recognised researchers, you will mentor talented Master’s students, strengthen your teaching portfolio, and advance your own research within a vibrant pan-African academic community.
Designed as a bridge between doctoral studies and long term academic careers, the fellowship prepares the next generation of African researchers to address complex public health challenges through mathematical sciences.

QUALIFICATION
- Hold a PhD awarded within two years of the fellowship start date.
- Have a PhD in mathematics, applied mathematics, statistics, mathematical epidemiology, computational biology, biostatistics, data science, artificial intelligence and machine learning, computational physics, operations research, scientific computing, public health modelling, or a closely related quantitative discipline.
- Demonstrate strong quantitative and analytical skills relevant to mathematical epidemiology.
- Have experience in teaching, tutoring, mentoring, or academic supervision.
- Show excellent communication skills and a student centred approach to learning.
- Submit a clear research and career development plan.
- Be available for a full time residential fellowship at AIMS Rwanda and KEMRI, Nairobi.
