OVERWIEW
The “Fellowship in Outbreak Readiness for Global Health Protection” (FOR-GHP) empowers local experts who act as multipliers for regional impact to enhance health emergency preparedness, response, and resilience among public health structures. The fellowship aims to strengthen effective management of natural and intentional disease outbreaks in line with the International Health Regulations (IHR).
The Fellowship intends to develop innovative, sustainable training initiatives to strengthen competency and capacity.
FOR-GHP OBJECTIVE
- To strengthen fellows’ competencies in outbreak management.
- To train experts as effective facilitators, multipliers, and leaders.
- To facilitate implementation of capacity strengthening measures within regional networks
- To foster long-term sustainability and impact through growing and nurturing an active alumni network
FOR-GHP TRAINED COMPETENCIES
- Infectious disease surveillance and public health intelligence.
- Outbreak preparedness, response and emergency management in line with International Health Regulations (IHR 2005).
- Designing, delivering and evaluating public health training initiatives.
- Public health communication, leadership and ethical practice.
- Systems thinking, cross-sector collaboration and partnership building.
- Workforce development through mentorship, peer learning and professional networks.
BENEFITS
- After successful completion of the programme, the fellows will be awarded:
- a certificate
- 10 European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System (ECTS) points
- There are no tuition fees.
- The fellowship budget covers:
- economy-class flights
- visa fees
- accommodation for the three workshops
- Daily meals are provided, and no daily allowances (per diems) will be paid.
QUALIFICATION CRITERIA
- Applicants must be from and employed in a country in sub-Saharan Africa.
- Professional experience of at least two years in either the public health or biomedical sector
- A degree or equivalent in at least one of the following fields:
- Public Health
- Medicine
- Epidemiology
- Microbiology
- Biology
- Allied health sciences disciplines.
- An endorsement document from the current employer confirming that the fellows are allowed to attend the fellowship alongside their work.
- A letter of recommendation from at least one current (not older than three years) and contactable reference with their contact information (email and phone).
- Advanced proficiency in English
- Access to a computer with a stable internet connection, functioning audio, and a microphone is required.
