Within the IRC, the Specialist in Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) plays a key role in the Health Technical Unit by providing expert guidance on high-quality SRHR programming. The position emphasizes family planning and comprehensive abortion care, supports strategic initiatives such as the Family Planning Impact Lab in South Sudan and Somalia, and works to expand access to contraception in fragile settings. The Specialist collaborates closely with internal teams and external partners to ensure program quality, alignment, and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
- Technical Support for Strategic Projects (50%)
- Lead the implementation of key initiatives such as the Family Planning Impact Lab
- Coordinate multidisciplinary teams across research, design, and health programming
- Oversee pilot programs and iterative improvements
- Act as the primary technical focal point for internal and external stakeholders
- Monitor program performance and drive timely adjustments
- Technical Assistance and Scaling (20%)
- Identify and address technical gaps in country-level programs
- Support the development and rollout of training materials and tools
- Provide expert guidance on contraception and abortion care
- Ensure alignment with global health standards and best practices
- Knowledge Management and Learning (10%)
- Document and disseminate best practices across programs
- Support communities of practice and peer learning initiatives
- Translate project insights into scalable program improvements
- External Representation and Influence (10%)
- Contribute to thought leadership through publications and presentations
- Represent the organization in global forums, workshops, and policy discussions
- Business Development (10%)
- Support proposal development and strategic growth opportunities
- Provide technical input into program design for new initiatives
Required Qualifications
- Degree in public health or a related discipline; Master’s degree preferred
- Clinical background (e.g., nursing or midwifery) considered an advantage
- Minimum of 6 years’ experience in public health, particularly in SRHR
- Proven experience working in humanitarian or fragile contexts
- Expertise in family planning and comprehensive abortion care
- Experience managing multi-country and multi-stakeholder projects
- Strong communication and collaboration skills across diverse teams
- Fluency in English and French; additional languages such as Arabic or Spanish are beneficial
Preferred Competencies
- Knowledge of monitoring and evaluation (M&E) frameworks
- Experience with implementation research and program scaling
- Ability to work in fast-paced, multicultural, and remote environments
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities
- Willingness and ability to travel up to 30% as required
Work Environment and Compensation
- United States: $95,000 – $107,000
- United Kingdom: £58,736 – £68,526
