Overview
The Andrew Thyne Reid Scholarship supports high-achieving nursing, midwifery, and allied health students to undertake professional experience placements in rural and remote areas. It aims to ease financial challenges, encourage skill development, and promote quality health care in regional communities, contributing to their sustainability and prosperity.
Aim and Benefits
-Support at least 20 students by providing a scholarship of up to $5,000 per recipient.
-The value will be determined by location and duration of placement.
-This is intended to cover accommodation, travel, living expenses, and other expenses associated with the placement.
-Some compensation for the loss of income and/or the expenses to maintain a home base in Adelaide.
Requirements
- be an Australian citizen, permanent resident or New Zealand Citizen
- be enrolled in the second or subsequent year of an undergraduate Nursing, Midwifery or Allied Health degree at Flinders University
- be in the second year of study in a postgraduate degree in physiotherapy, occupational therapy, nutrition and dietetics, speech pathology, clinical exercise physiology, optometry and audiology
- be enrolled in a topic that has a continuous placement component of at least 4 weeks
- have satisfied all the compliance requirements for placement eligibility
- be undertaking the placement in a rural venue as defined by the Australian Statistical Geography Standard Remoteness Areas 2-5, excluding Mount Barker
- be able to demonstrate financial hardship and/or anticipated financial disadvantage as a result of undertaking a rural or remote PEP
- not normally reside within 100km of the placement location
- not reside at a family home address within 50km of the placement location.
