Overview
Technical and financial support disruptions have jeopardized critical health workforce systems and digital infrastructure, especially in vulnerable communities. In response to these challenges, Member States at the 156th session of the WHO Executive Board approved a two-year extensionof theGlobal Strategy on Digital Health 2020–2025, extending it through2027, and proposed asecond strategy for 2028–2032, to be discussed at the 78th World Health Assembly.
Under WHO’s Global Health Strategy 2025–2028 (its Fourteenth Programme of Work), the Global Initiative on Digital Health (GIDH) is working to fast-track the rollout of the digital health strategy and its future extensions.
This event will explore how extending and renewing the Global Strategy on Digital Health can help countries rebuild stronger health systems by improving governance, empowering local innovation, and ensuring sustainable digital transformation.
Objectives
- To discuss and identify priority actions of the anticipated extension of the Global Strategy on Digital Health (2025 – 2027) that can support low- and middle-income countries to close urgent gaps for digital systems that underpin healthcare delivery (pending approval of Agenda item 24.2 of the Seventy Eighth session of the World Health Assembly)
- To discuss key themes to be considered in the anticipated renewal of the Global Strategy on Digital Health (2028 – 2033) (pending approval of Agenda item 24.2 of the Seventy Eighth session of the World Health Assembly)
- To map a pathway for how collective partnerships and network collaboration can plan, finance and execute a sustainable and country-led digital transformation.
