Job Description
To enhance the surgical skills and training capacity of national healthcare professionals in obstetric fistula repair and holistic care.
Responsibilities
- Guide Amref’s project team on standard procedures for fistula training.
- Conduct surgeries on the fistula registered cases with assistance from the national surgeon and the medical team.
- Provide capacity building and mentorship for the national medical team at this fistula medical camp.
- Support the national medical team on a sustainable routine fistula approach in the Juba Teaching Hospital.
The following deliverables are expected from this:
- Pre- and post-operation guidance to the national medical team part of the medical camp on fistula.
- Conducting fistula surgeries for an average of 3-5 cases each day on assignment.
A written report detailing surgeries, observations, challenges, and recommendations on a sustainable approach to routine fistula repairs in the hospital.
Qualifications
The successful candidate must possess the following:
- Medical Doctor (MD) with a postgraduate degree in Obstetrics and Gynecology or General Surgery.
- Extensive proven experience (minimum 7-10 years) in performing complex obstetric fistula repair surgeries.
- Certified or highly experienced as a trainer in obstetric fistula surgery, with a strong understanding of competency-based training methodologies.
- Demonstrable experience in surgical mentorship, with a clear track record of successfully guiding and developing other surgeons.
- Strong recommendation from FIGO (International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics) specifically related to their expertise as a fistula surgeon and/or trainer. This recommendation should speak to their adherence to FIGO standards and their capacity for surgical training and mentorship.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a multicultural environment and adapt to challenging local contexts.
- Fluency in English (written and spoken).
