Overview

UNFPA Ghana invites passionate young innovators aged 18-35 to create creative digital solutions to secure girls’ futures in Ghana. The AI for Her Future: A National Innovation Hackathon, focuses on two crucial tracks, child marriage and teen pregnancy. 20 teams will be chosen for a two-day hybrid innovation sprint, ending in a live pitch event in Accra. Finalists will compete for financial prizes, mentorship, and advanced technology and social impact training, with judges including national and international luminaries.

The Challenge: How can innovation (digital, AI, non-digital) be used to identify, monitor, prevent, and disrupt the drivers of child marriage and teenage pregnancy?

Eligibility

  • Tertiary students, developers, designers, activists, and problem solvers ages 18–35
  • Teams of 1-3 encouraged (solo applicants are welcome)
  • No tech background required — all ideas welcome
  • Free to apply and participate

What You’ll Build

  • AI-powered detection tools (e.g. voice, text, or social media monitoring)
  • Digital education tools to equip girls with knowledge and mentorship
  • Prevention platforms with alerts, resources, and safe space tools
  • Anonymous reporting systems for survivors and others
