About the training/course
This course is specifically designed to provide trainees with experiential learning and mentorship in health sciences research and practice in a global context.
Who Can Apply
It is open to senior undergraduate and graduate trainees at SFU, other Canadian institutions, and all SANTHE-affiliated sites including:

- Botswana-Harvard AIDS Institute Partnership (BHP); and University of Botswana
- Centre de Recherche sur les Maladies Emergentes et Re-emergentes (CREMER)/Institut de Recherches Medicales et D’Etudes des Plantes Medicinales (IMPM); Centre International de Référence – Chantal Biya – pour la recherche sur la prévention et la prise en charge du VIH/SIDA (CIRCB); Centre Pasteur du Cameroun (CPC); and University of Yaounde 1; Higher Institute for Scientific and Medical Research (ISM)
- Collaborative Clinical Research Centre (CCRC); and University of Zimbabwe
- Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI)-Wellcome Trust Research Programme (KWTRP); Kenya AIDS Vaccine Initiative (KAVI); and Pwani University
- Center for Family Health Research in Zambia (CFHRZ); University of Zambia; and Centre for Infectious Disease Research in Zambia (CIDRZ)
- Center for Family Health Research in Rwanda (CFHR) and University of Rwanda;
- Uganda-Case Research Collaboration (UCRC)); Makerere University; and Rakai Health Sciences Program (RHSP)
Activities will be based at the Nelson R. Mandela School of Medicine in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal (KZN), South Africa, but will include several field trips throughout the province.

- Once you’ve been accepted for entry into the course, all associated in-course costs are covered e.g. lectures, lunches and transport for field trips.
Please Note:
- If you reside in Durban, you will be responsible for getting to the School of Medicine each day as well as getting home.
- If you are not local, you are responsible for any travel and accommodation costs that result from attending the course.
- If you are a SANTHE Fellow or affiliate you may apply for a SANTHE Travel Scholarship.
